Student Progress September 8th - 10th

Our students were hard at work this week beginning their first projects of the year. Eighth grade did not have class this week because we were off on Monday so you'll have to wait until next week to see what they are working on.

Preschool
This week was the first time I met our new 5 day preschool students. I like to begin the year with a self portrait, this project allows me to get a sense of what interests them and their current motor skills and drawing developmental level. It's so exciting to see how they progress through the year.

Kindergarten
We began by looking at the work of Piet Mondrian. Students learned the definition of: horizontal and vertical lines and used those words along with identifying shapes and colors. Students also were able to articulate the similarities and differences between a selection of Mondrian paintings. I was so impressed, especially for the second week of school. Our hands on activity involved primary colors, tracing shapes and writing your name 6 different times. This may sound easy but the little hands for very tired.
