What is the Art Teacher Working On??

On this page you can find out what Miss Ferraina is working on! I am an Artist as well as an Art Teacher and I find time to create. Some of the things I am working on are for Holy Family School, some are commissions or gifts and sometimes I'm just struck with inspiration and must create!!

March, 2016
One of our teachers is expecting a new baby in March! I wanted to make her family something special for the baby's room. I adapted the design on her shower invitation to make this hand painted sign.

The Bishop is coming to visit Holy Family School! Here's a hand painted poster to welcome him!

I absolutely fell in love with this painting of Jesus by artist Akiane Kramarik titled:
Prince Of Peace, 36"x48", Age 8 (2003), © Copyright

Akiane Kramarik-the little girl pictured painted this picture!:

I really wanted to draw this summer and because I loved  Akiane Kramarik's painting so much I decided to do my best to render it in graphite and charcoal.

I'll describe my process and show how the drawing progresses to help students see one person's drawing process.

I am using pencil and charcoal pencil. That gray thing that looks like "sticky tac" is called a kneaded eraser... some of you have seen those being used in a video!
Noticed how the drawing slowly progresses over time. I started with a simple line drawing and then added in shadows. I work on one area and move on to another. I am not finishing one tiny piece and moving on, I'm letting the drawing progress at the same pace.
