What is the art teacher working on?

Designing and painting the new front window display for December ...

Festival of Trees 2015

The students and I are preparing for The Festival of Trees at the Lehigh Calley Airport. About 20 schools including Hoku Family have a tree inside the airport that was donated by local tree farms. Each school created ornaments and then decorates their tree for the commuters to see while traveling for the holidays. Our Advancement Director Mrs. Hart is looking for parent volunteers to decorate and then "undecorate" the tree. Email Mrs. Hart if you'd like to help.

Here is a tiny preview of ornaments each grade is working on.

4th grade -- Building and painting sleds

6th grade -- Giant paper snowflakes
The students really got excited about this one!

Each snowflake starts by folding, cutting and flying to make 6 pieces like the one below. The first piece was tricky, but after the students accomplished making one piece they really got the hang of it!

A mass of snowflakes ready for the airport!

7th grade --- Rolled paper cones declaring the shape of your choice

8th grade-- 3D paper ornaments in the shape of your choice

4th grade Oil Pastel Pumpkins

I am so excited to share them pumpkin drawings 4th grade completed using oil pastels. We worked hard to blend colors to make the pumpkins look realistic. The students even surprised themselves, they were so pleased with the finished products.

These are on display in the hallways and I think I'll have to save them for our Art Show in April!

All Saint's Day

We enjoyed a wonderful All Saint's Day Celebration at Holy Family School today! 7th grades students dressed up as their Confirmation Saint, and presented a brief biography of their Saint during our full school mass. After mass, 7th graders lined the decorated "Heavenly Hallway" as all other grades walked through. Students asked 7th graders some questions about their Saint.

In Art Class 7th grade students completed a paper mache sculpture of their Saint. The sculptures were displayed in the hallway along with their "newspaper articles" they completed about their Saints for religion class.

I am so proud of the hard work and attention to detail of the Saint Sculptures. I have been hearing many compliments on the Saints from teachers and students.

My Favorite Place in America

Students in 4th grade have completed their drawings for the contest! Drawings were mailed out on Friday for official judging, but not before I took photos! Are you as impressed as I am with their drawing skills?

"My Favorite Place in America"

I just have to share a few snap shots from 4th grade today. The students are "wowing me" with their talents as they draw their favorite place in America for a drawing contest hosted by the Northampton County Bar Association. I can't wait to see all of them completed!!!
